The list01
What are the other ingredients?
Listed in order of weight: rice flour, gelatin, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, maltodextrin, soy protein concentrate and water.
They sit below the Supplement Facts panel. By law, other ingredients are listed in order of weight, so rice flour is likely the largest. They are in the capsule to fill it, to hold it together and to help the powder flow in the machine. None is an active ingredient in the sense of the panel.
At a glance02
What does each do?
| Ingredient | Job | Who should note it |
|---|---|---|
| Rice flour | Filler | Few; rice allergy |
| Gelatin | Capsule shell | Vegans and vegetarians; some religious diets |
| Magnesium stearate | Flow agent | Rarely an issue |
| Silicon dioxide | Anti-caking | Rarely an issue |
| Maltodextrin | Filler, carrier | Diabetes; sensitive stomachs |
| Soy protein concentrate | Filler | Soy allergy |
| Water | Processing | None |
Gelatin03
What does gelatin mean for the diet?
Gelatin comes from animal collagen, so the capsule is not vegan or vegetarian.
The brand pack includes a vegetarian-friendly badge, which we could not square with a gelatin capsule. If you avoid animal products, take the label as the guide and ask the seller what the badge means. Gelatin may also matter to men who follow halal or kosher rules, in which case the source of the gelatin is the question to ask.
Soy04
Who should avoid soy protein?
People with a soy allergy, and the label should be read with care.
Soy protein concentrate is listed, which is a major allergen in the US. The amount is small, but allergic people can react to small amounts. If you have a soy allergy, skip the product or ask your allergist. The sales page claims about being free of fillers sit awkwardly beside a list with rice flour, maltodextrin and soy.
Maltodextrin05
What about maltodextrin and diabetes?
Maltodextrin is a quickly absorbed carbohydrate, but the amount in a capsule is tiny.
For most men with diabetes, a few milligrams will not matter. The more relevant point is that the herbs in the blend may affect blood sugar, which we discuss in the ginseng and damiana posts. Still, tell the diabetes team about the whole product, and check readings more closely at the start.
Never drop a treatment for this. Ask before adding any supplement to a regimen.
Gluten06
Is it gluten-free?
The label does not say, and rice flour is not gluten, but oat straw and processing could introduce traces.
A gluten-free badge appears in the brand pack, but no certifying body is named. People with coeliac disease should ask the seller for a gluten test result before use. This is a point we flag to confirm, and we would not call the product gluten-free without proof.
Allergens07
How do you handle allergies?
- Check the label on your bottle, not only this post
- Ask about cross-contact with wheat, milk and nuts
- Call the order desk before ordering if you have a severe allergy
- Stop and seek care for hives, swelling or trouble breathing
The FDA lists major allergens, and good labels name them clearly (FDA, Information for Consumers on Supplements).
Claims08
How do the label and the sales claims line up?
Some marketing language, such as free of fillers, does not match a list that includes fillers.
It is common for sales copy to say more than the label. When they differ, the label governs. We list these mismatches in the pre-launch confirm list so that the seller can reconcile them, and we advise readers to rely on the bottle.
Bottom line09
What is the bottom line on the other ingredients?
Ordinary capsule excipients, with gelatin and soy as the two that matter for diet and allergy.
Read your own bottle, and ask the seller about anything that affects your health or beliefs.
